COAST RIDGE, Big Sur — October 2026. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors included County Service Area 33, Coast Ridge/Carmel Sur in its July 7, 2026 resolutions authorizing annual special assessments for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The action directs the auditor-controller to place applicable charges against parcels in participating service districts.
What does this service area cover?
County listings identify Coast Ridge/Carmel Sur as CSA 33. The district’s authorized service area concerns storm drainage, which may involve maintenance of drainage channels and related facilities. This is a specific district; it does not mean the county maintains every privately owned road or culvert along Coast Ridge.
Was a rate increase approved?
The annual resolution, numbered RES 26-097, authorizes the fiscal-year tax-roll entries. It does not itself demonstrate a new assessment rate increase or completion of new drainage construction. The district’s individual exhibit lists property-related entries, so the amount relevant to a household must be checked against the specific parcel and tax bill.
Why should residents check the boundaries?
Coast Ridge is an area where steep terrain makes water runoff and culvert maintenance important. But a community name, mailing address and formal service-area boundary are not always identical. Residents seeking an explanation of a charge or a drainage repair should ask Monterey County Public Works for the district boundary, parcel exhibit and work records.

Editorial clarification: Tax-roll authorization is not evidence of a new emergency, rate increase or finished physical project.
